Vessel Classification & Certification

Comprehensive hull & machinery certification, inclining tests, stability verification, and class surveys for all vessel types.

Vessel Classification & Certification

We provide professional classification and certification services for commercial and specialist vessels worldwide, acting as local technical representatives and survey partners for ClassIBS. Our services ensure that new-builds, in-service ships, and repaired or modified vessels comply with classification rules, statutory requirements and industry best practice.

Our role as ClassIBS representatives

As authorised representatives of ClassIBS, we act on owners’ and operators’ behalf to coordinate plan approval, surveys and the issuance of class documentation. We facilitate communication between owners, shipyards, equipment makers, classification surveyors and flag administrations — ensuring an efficient survey program, timely class decisions and secure issuance of electronic/full-term class certificates where applicable.

Hull Certification

Hull certification confirms the structural integrity and fitness-for-purpose of the hull and supporting structure based on class rules and survey outcomes. Our hull-certification services include:

  • Technical review of hull design drawings and scantling calculations.
  • Witnessing and verification of material certificates, weld procedures, NDT and structural workmanship during construction or repair.
  • Execution and coordination of required surveys (initial, intermediate, annual and special surveys) to maintain class status.
  • Preparation of repair specifications and follow-up surveys after major damage or structural modification.
  • We coordinate directly with ClassIBS surveyors to ensure that hull works satisfy class rules and that survey reports and remedial actions are implemented in a clear, auditable manner.

    Machinery Certification

Machinery certification covers principal propulsion systems, main and auxiliary engines, essential pumps, boilers and critical rotating equipment. Our machinery-certification and inspection services include:

  • Review and verification of machinery arrangement, foundation and alignment drawings.
  • Verification of machinery material and manufacturer certificates, test documentation and factory acceptance tests (FAT).
  • Supervision of installation, commissioning tests, and witnessed trials (including load / endurance testing).
  • Coordination of periodic machinery surveys and class-required maintenance checks to retain statutory and class endorsements.
  • We ensure engine-room installations meet classification society mechanical and survey standards so that machinery receives appropriate notations, endorsements and continued survey acceptance.

    Inclining Tests & Stability Verification

Inclining experiments and stability verification are core deliverables for new builds, major conversions and after-repair verification of a vessel’s intact stability characteristics:

  • We plan and supervise inclining experiments (inclining test) in accordance with IMO guidance and accepted survey practice (calm conditions, correct pendulum procedures and accurate weight/arm records). Results are used to determine the ship’s lightship centre of gravity and to validate stability booklets.
  • We produce or update stability booklets, intact stability calculations and loading condition documentation required by class and flag administrations.
  • For in-service stability assurance, we provide deadweight checks, lightship monitoring, and in-service hull stability verification programs where applicable.

Surveys, Maintenance & On-going Class Support

We run full survey programs that preserve class status and statutory compliance:

  • Initial and special surveys (new-build acceptance, major conversions, post-casualty inspections).
  • Annual/intermediate/renewal surveys and planned maintenance inspections to fit the class survey loop.
  • Support for remedial action planning (shipyard supervision, testing, re-survey)
  • Preparation and management of documentary evidence for class and flag (survey reports, test certificates, repair statements).
  • Electronic Certificates & Record-keeping

Where available and permitted by flag/port state, we help clients transition to secure electronic certificates (e-certificates) and maintain digital records in line with IMO guidance for electronic documentation — simplifying administration and reducing document handling burdens during port calls.

Why choose our classification & certification services

We run full survey programs that preserve class status and statutory compliance:

  • Direct representation for ClassIBS — local technical advocacy and a single point of contact for owners/operators.
  • Experienced naval architects, surveyors and marine engineers with proven shipyard and afloat credentials.
  • Complete service scope: plan review, hull & machinery certification, inclining & stability testing, survey management, repair supervision and electronic documentation support.
  • Clear, auditable survey reports and pragmatic remediation pathways that preserve class status and operational capability.
